Fellowships are short-term (typically 3-month) opportunities with Dalberg Design, often during summer months. We look for the following in all  fellows.

  • Gritty and flexible doer: You jump into new contexts and projects with a “roll up your sleeves” mentality. You produce excellent work and aren’t afraid to iterate along the way, while keeping yourself organized, resourceful and accountable.

  • Clear communicator: You understand the power of strong stories that weave together qualitative & quantitative information. You strive for clear, persuasive communication regardless of medium.

  • Budding human-centered designer: You have applied design thinking in the real world and are eager to dive deeper. You have a strong baseline familiarity with methods and are constantly refining your craft.

Skills & Experience || Join us if you have...

  • Work experience in social impact / development contexts: work at / with / for international development institutions, social or public agencies, non-profits and NGOs, mission-driven corporates, startups and social enterprises.Experience in emerging markets a plus: Africa, India, Southeast Asia, Latin America, etc.

  • HCD track record: work at design agencies, with design teams, and/or on design projects

  • Client services exposure: collaborating with clients, donors, funders, or key stakeholders

  • Ability and willingness to travel abroad for client work

  • Proficiency in English, written & spoken is required. French, Spanish, Swahili and/or Hindi a plus!

Responsibilities || What you’ll be up to over the course of your fellowship:

  • Client Projects: You will have opportunities to stretch your current skillset, learn on the fly, and manage your own work streams within project work. You will primarily collaborate on Dalberg Design and Advisor teams through various aspects of project implementation, from planning and logistics, to user research, to product design, to developing strategic frameworks and polished client deliverables. We will work with each fellow to assess their existing skills and expertise, and define how their goals and skills can best align with our pipeline of work.

Dalberg Design Studio Building: As a growing studio, part of our work is bolstering our internal capacity. We will work with our fellows to identify mutually beneficial projects within our emerging practice that may include marketing and communication, tool development, operational projects, business development, research, etc. You will also be actively encouraged to contribute to the growing thought leadership in this area of work, in any form (articles, presentations, videos, etc.)–based the project experiences you gain.
